Thank you to everyone that came to our Warrior’s Men’s Night
We love our partnership with the Westlock Warriors Men’s Hockey Team for this event.
Tyler Smith, former Humboldt Bronco, was our special guest. He spoke of the horrific bus crash of April 2018, that claimed the lives of 16 of his teammates and coaches, and his long road to recovery. He is an amazing young man that has been through a lot, and his goal is to honor the memory of those teammates in every aspect of his life.
Theo Fleury was our Keynote Speaker, who spoke at the local high school earlier that day. He was a powerhouse!
Theo is perhaps best known for his time on the ice where he played for teams like the Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, and Chicago Blackhawks. Theo was also a gold medal winner of the Olympics in 2002.
Off the rink, his upbringing carried the markings of a troubled childhood, abuse, and coping with emotional pain through addictive and self-destructive behaviors. He talked about being sexually abused by his coach and the struggles that came with that.
Theo is also the author of 2 books - Playing with Fire and Conversations with a Rattlesnake. We had a long line up of guests buying his book and getting an autograph.
We ended the evening with a hot stove panel made up of 5 pro and semi-pro hockey players.
Thanks to our MC Rod Kaliel for always getting the guys on a roll telling stories of their “glory days!”
